Pockets aren’t just a practical feature in fashion, they’re a clever and stylish addition to interior design too. From ingenious storage solutions to playful accents, on today’s blog we are sharing five of our favourite ways to incorporate pockets into our designs.
Pocket Doors
Pocket doors are the ultimate space-saving solution. Sliding effortlessly into the wall, they free up precious floor space while maintaining a sleek, modern look. We love using pocket doors in compact kitchens to create a seamless flow between rooms. They offer both elegance and function, making them ideal for smaller spaces where every inch counts.
Pocket Squares
Our Shop Kit Kemp silk pocket squares add a vibrant pop of colour to any outfit. Crafted from some of our favourite fabrics, they’re the perfect way to brighten up a winter day. Whether folded neatly into a jacket pocket, tied as a chic neck scarf or styled as a playful bow on a ponytail, they bring an extra touch of personality. One of our favourites is Travelling Light, a fabric we designed for Christopher Farr Cloth, with a smart double-row edging.
Pockets on Upholstery
Much like clothing, pockets on furniture add both function and charm. Our Leo Armchair, for example, features a discreet pocket, perfect for stashing a book, newspaper or reading glasses. With its inviting, deep seat and bold, vibrant upholstery, this chair is both practical and striking — a true statement piece for any room.
Pocket Bags
In our Design Studio, we’ve repurposed leftover fabric samples into beautiful pocket drawstring bags. These handy pouches are perfect for keeping things tidy while making the most of fabric scraps. We love how different patterns come together in harmonious patchworks, creating a one-of-a-kind, sustainable accessory. Looking for more creative ways to upcycle fabric? Pocket Aprons
Our Lost & Found aprons are a perfect blend of style and practicality. Featuring a spacious pocket, they provide a handy spot for keeping tools or recipes, or even your phone within easy reach as you work. These aprons are a true reflection of our passion for design, seamlessly combining bold aesthetics with everyday functionality — making them an essential piece for both the kitchen and the studio.
Pockets, whether in fashion or interiors, are a small yet impactful detail that brings both style and convenience. We hope this inspires you to get creative with pockets in your own designs! Share your ideas with us on Instagram @kitkempdesignthread.
