When it comes to designing a room, our Songbird wallpaper, available through Andrew Martin and Shop Kit Kemp, has the power to elevate a space from ordinary to extraordinary. With its playful elegance and a hint of whimsy, it features birds perched on delicate, undulating branches, singing to butterflies in flight. The design draws inspiration from nature and Chinoiserie landscapes, yet offers a softer, more relaxed tone. Available in five versatile colourways—Spring, Dawn, Mist, Rain, and Sunset – Songbird provides endless possibilities. On today’s blog we are looking at how we’ve used three different colourways to create unique and unforgettable schemes.
One of the most vibrant and daring colourways is Sunset, with its energetic hues and warmth. In the Richmond Suite at The Soho Hotel, this bold orange instantly boosts the mood, creating a welcoming and cheerful atmosphere as you enter the drawing room. The hand-painted design adds depth and texture with its painterly sponged background and visible brushstrokes. Playful birds and delicate branches offer a conversational touch while maintaining a serene ambiance – perfect for both entertaining guests and unwinding at the end of the day.
The beauty of Songbird is reflected throughout the room, with appliqué designs in the drawing room and bedroom paying homage to its charm. Modern elements like the zingy green fireside chests and bow lamps create an exciting juxtaposition, balancing the scheme with a fresh, contemporary twist.
For a completely different mood, Songbird in Mist has been used in Suite 704 at Warren Street Hotel to evoke a sense of calm. The soft blues, neutrals, and subtle greens enhance the tranquil atmosphere, bringing the serenity of the outdoors inside.
To further embrace nature’s theme, we incorporated flora and fauna motifs into the headboard, creating a cohesive thread throughout the space. The sofa and decorative cushions feature intricate stitching and delicate 3D appliqué flowers, adding texture and richness. The result is a cosy, sophisticated room that exudes elegance while incorporating unique, contemporary touches.
Finally, the Rain colourway has been used in Room 207 at Charlotte Street Hotel, where the chalky teal makes a bold statement—more dramatic than Mist but more understated than Sunset. This colourway strikes the perfect balance between the two. Paired with crisp whites and soft blues, the monochrome palette allows the wallpaper to take centre stage. In smaller spaces like this one, it’s crucial to balance patterns and solids for a cohesive look. We’ve achieved a timeless, contemporary feel by using our Ozone fabric on the headboard – a graphic print framed in white floral embroidery that adds a touch of drama.
Ozone complements the Songbird wallpaper beautifully, creating harmony throughout the room. Across from the bed, two tub chairs blend seamlessly, enhancing the room’s flow and balance.
We hope you’ve enjoyed seeing how the same wallpaper can transform into vastly different schemes and atmospheres. We can’t wait to experiment with the final two colourways!
