This week marks one year since the passing of renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero (1932–2023), making it a perfect time to reflect on his awe-inspiring and whimsical sculptures, which continue to captivate and delight visitors at our hotels. We are honoured to feature three of Botero’s majestic sculptures in our hotels in London and New York.
Let us introduce you to our ten-foot-tall cat in the lobby of The Soho Hotel. She’s so cherished that when the hotel—originally a multi-storey car park—was built, it was designed around her. Guests often find comfort beneath her giant paws, where we’ve placed a cosy felt cushion for them to sit on.
At Charlotte Street Hotel, you’ll be greeted by a charming bronze dog. He’s so adored that the patina on his head has worn lighter over time from countless affectionate pats.
Finally, in New York, at Crosby Street Hotel, you’ll meet Crosby The Cat.
Standing proud outside the hotel, he’s a gift to the city, known for his playful demeanor and occasional flower Mohican hairstyle.
Fernando Botero’s influence on both the art world and our three unique hotels is profound. We hope these sculptures bring a smile to your face and a spring to your step as you come and go!
