In our Design Studio, we always strive to create spaces that exude energy, dynamism, and intrigue. Many of the fabrics we use embody undulation, traditionally achieved through weaving and knitting techniques. Today, modern methods like printed patterns and embroidery bring this dynamic quality to life. These wave-like patterns and textures add depth, giving flat fabrics a captivating three-dimensional quality. On today’s blog, we are looking at some of our favourite fabrics that embody this undulating movement.
Wave Hill by Travers
In Residence 17 at Ham Yard Hotel, the statement headboard showcases the ‘Wave Hill’ fabric by Travers. Inspired by Ottoman-era vines and trails, this design has been modernised with bold flowers and vibrant colours. The large-scale waves infuse movement into the bedroom, while the visible warp and subtle variations in the fabric soften the overall effect, adding vintage charm.
Wriggle Room by Kit Kemp x GP & J Baker
‘Wriggle Room’ is a delightful, whimsical design we created in collaboration with GP & J Baker. This fabric, available in five colourways, features playful, painterly squiggles that bring any room to life. Its refined small-scale geometric print offers sophistication without sacrificing style. The versatility of this pattern allows it to be used in various design elements, from wall coverings in corridors to curtains and lampshades. The watercolour squiggles lend depth and character to any space.
Wave by Fermoie
‘Wave’ by Fermoie is one of our all-time favourite fabrics. It features bold brushstrokes reminiscent of the cosmos, layering light, texture, and movement. Inspired by the flowing shapes of water and the graphic layers of colours found in stone, this fabric brings a sense of calm and ease to any room. At our Design Studio, we often use ‘Wave’ for wall upholstery, where its rhythmic, wavy pattern enhances the serenity of the space.
Large Scale Lyrical VOC by Botanica Trading
In suite 1002 at Warren Street Hotel, we pushed design boundaries to create a space bursting with personality and energy. The focal point is the headboard, adorned with the ‘Large Scale Lyrical VOC’ fabric. This design features large-scale VOC plates on a neutral white background, decorated with intricate layers and tones of underglaze blue, framed by a panelled border. The concentric circles trick the eye, giving the fabric a three-dimensional appearance, while the stacked plates display undulating edges that command attention.
We hope this blog inspires you to incorporate some undulating movement into your own spaces.
