Artwork has a unique ability to complete a room, infusing it with life and seamlessly tying all its elements together. The right framing is essential to ensure your artwork truly shines in its space. One of our favourite methods for framing accessories or artwork is using a Perspex box. This versatile choice not only protects your pieces but also gives them a floating effect, adding depth and dimension to the artwork. Whether you’re showcasing a distinctive textile, a sculptural object, or a vibrant painting, a Perspex box allows the artwork to speak for itself. Today on the blog, we’re excited to share how we’ve incorporated Perspex boxes into our designs.
We love using Perspex to highlight our trinkets and unique objects. At The Croc Bowling Alley in Ham Yard Hotel, we framed various bowling shoes in different colours, transforming them into a striking art installation. This creative display is a perfect example of how something so simple can make a significant impact on a space, adding character and a touch of whimsy. The Perspex boxes not only protect the shoes but also allow each one to stand out, creating a wall that perfectly captures the playful spirit of the bowling alley.
At Number Sixteen, we’ve also showcased a pair of vintage shoes framed in a Perspex box, hung between two French windows. These shoes inject a playful, fun energy into the space.
We also enjoy adding a painted frame border to a shadow box with a Perspex front, bringing character and flair to the piece. This technique is an excellent way to tie in the colours of the space, creating a cohesive look. For example, we’ve featured embroidered animals within these frames, turning them into focal points that add a touch of charm to the room.
At The Whitby Hotel, we encased papier-mâché beetles in dimensional Perspex boxes, creating a striking decoration.
Additionally, at The Whitby Hotel, we hung ceramic plates encased in Perspex boxes, sourced from flea markets around the world. We love how these groupings of platters and plates add character, with each piece functioning as its own unique artwork.
At Refuel in The Soho Hotel, which was originally an old NCP car park, we continued the narrative by displaying collections of vintage Dinky Cars in Perspex cases, transforming them into one-of-a-kind coffee tables.
Finally, at Charlotte Street Hotel, we encased fabric butterflies to create eye-catching artwork. Butterflies, one of our favourite mythical creatures, bring inspiration, colour, and joy to the space.
Encasing objects in Perspex is a brilliant way to transform everyday items into stunning focal points, adding personality and charm to your space. Whether it’s shoes, textiles, or your child’s toys and drawings, this technique offers a modern twist that makes your home truly one-of-a-kind.
