The grid element is an invisible web of lines that brings order to our spaces, weaving a tapestry of harmony and balance. Hotels, in particular, are unique structures made up of such frameworks, with each floor a horizontal line and each room a vertical mark, placed with deliberate symmetry to create a rhythmic pattern that guests can intuitively navigate. Join us as we share how we have used the grid element in our spaces.
Crittall Windows
Crittall windows, with their sleek metal frames and grid patterns, tell a timeless tale from the early 20th century. Originally designed for industry, they now grace interiors with a poetic balance. We love how their crisp geometric lines frame skyline views with elegant precision, seamlessly blending the outdoors within. The juxtaposition of these structural lines against our bedroom designs adds harmonious contrast and contemporary marvel to our spaces.
Art and Grid Structures
The grid structure is a human-crafted ode to bringing order to nature’s organic beauty. Curating artwork in such alignment transforms a collection, whether a solitary masterpiece or a series of smaller works, into a pleasant visual narrative that captivates the eye. In the restaurant at Warren Street Hotel, against an organic French tapestry-inspired wallpaper, we curated artwork centred around a grid mirror. The painted grid frames echo this language and mirror the elegant Crittall windows opposite. In The Orangery at The Whitby Hotel, a collection of framed plates also mirrors the Crittall window beneath. This interplay of structured grids and organic textures deepens the visual narrative, blending the natural with the man-made and creating a harmonious dialogue between nature and design.
The Orangery at Ham Yard Hotel
Beneath our feet, a choreography of rhythmic patterns are formed in The Orangery at Ham Yard Hotel. A mix of stone and pebbles create organic and structural compositions that sit within each other. This considered grid frames the floor in an unexpected yet timeless elegance, with each piece meticulously aligned, blending balance and harmony with each step.
Ozone Fabric and Wallpaper
Our ‘Ozone’ fabric and wallpaper for Christopher Farr is a whimsical twist on the grid pattern. Composed of a playful motif within a geometric structure, it creates a dynamic yet orderly aesthetic. It is the perfect canvas for enhancing visual interest, adding depth while maintaining a soothing order with its rhythmic dance. We loved how it joyously uplifted the Brumus Bar and Restaurant at Haymarket Hotel.
We hope you have enjoyed exploring the ways we weave grid systems into our spaces and find yourself inspired to venture on the grid.
