Here at our Design Studio, it’s no secret that we love a bold and bright shade, so we were delighted to see that Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2023 is a gorgeous coral pink that they call Viva Magenta!
According to Pantone, “Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating colour whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.”
PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.
We love this joyous colour and have often used these shades in our projects. Vibrant hues of pink, coral and red instantly add warmth to a room and can make a real statement when it comes to personality and style. Read on to see a few of the ways we’ve used these playful shades in our designs.
Pink Walls
There’s just something about pink walls that instantly makes you feel warm and cosy – the deep hue envelops the space and is said to have a calming effect that can help relieve stress. In room 410 at Crosby Street Hotel, we’ve used a beautiful pink fabric on the walls, pairing it with a cooling teal to create balance and contrast.
Pink Accents
Adding elements of pink into a neutral room can provide the perfect injection of energy without being too overwhelming. Throw cushions, curtains, rugs and select pieces of upholstery can create the buzz you’re looking for. You can dial the concentration of colour up or down, depending on the look you want.
We’ve also used a dusty pink linen on the walls at Brumus, our restaurant at Haymarket Hotel. It’s fun and intimate, the perfect spot for a long lunch with friends.
Some of my favourite fabric designs for Christopher Farr and Chelsea Textiles come in vibrant magenta colourways that can instantly brighten a room. If you are looking to add that pop of pink, visit Shop Kit Kemp for some Viva Magenta inspiration!
Painting the Ceiling
Alternatively, you could go all out and paint your ceiling pink like we’ve done here at our Barbados residence, Rossferry. It draws the eye up and adds a cosiness to the space that makes it feel warm and inviting.
We hope that you feel inspired to bring some of those joyous shades into your interior spaces in 2023. Don’t forget to share them with us on Instagram @kitkempdesignthread.
