Ahead of our next New York Art Walk at The Whitby Hotel on Monday 12th December (6-9pm), we wanted to share a little more about this exciting new format that we’ve launched. Our Art Walks have always been popular and offer a unique insight into our hotel art collections, revealing the stories behind each of the pieces personally chosen by Kit. On previous walks, we’ve also taken guests to see galleries and exhibitions nearby, but we’ve recently decided to spice things up a bit with the addition of a guided drawing workshop, hosted by Lyora Pissarro.
We feel very lucky to have Lyora curating our Art Tours and Workshops at Crosby Street Hotel and The Whitby Hotel. As an artist and gallerist, she brings a unique perspective to the experiences informed by her own contemporary style as well as her family’s notable contribution to the French impressionist movement.
Join us to find out more about these special evenings…
On arrival at The Whitby Hotel, guests will be greeted with a glass of wine before starting a guided tour of the hotel’s art collection.
In the lobby guests are greeted by artist Stephen Cox RA’s alabaster plinths, Hermione Skye’s vast rainbow-hued loom woven above the reception and the shadowy figure of ‘Father Time‘ redrawing the clock hands on Maarten Baas’ Real Time: Grandfather Clock. Witty and entertaining artworks fill the adjoining Whitby Bar from Ramiro Fernandez Saus’ tale of dogs and birds overlooking the sea to paintings by Carla Kranendonk, Nicola Clarke and framed collections of ‘Haircuts of Hackney’ illustrations by Daniel Frost. Descend to the hotel’s private event spaces where a stairwell lined with Kate Blee’s joyous Tribe print and artworks by pop-art icons Joe Tilson and Jim Dine set the scene.
Following the tour Lyora will guide a drawing workshop, teaching you to create a dream inspired artwork that you can take home.
The next walk will take place at The Whitby Hotel on Monday 12th December, from 6-9pm. To find out more information and to book tickets, click here. We hope to see you there!
