Here at Kit Kemp Design Studio we’re gearing up for some exciting new schemes for our New York and London hotels as well as for our residential clients. No Kit Kemp scheme is complete without an abundance of fun, cohesive and textural fabrics. I’d love to share with you some of the fabrics and textiles we are working with.
Nina Campbell’s Ashdown Fabric
We love everything by Nina Campbell but one of our favourites at the moment is ‘Ashdown’. This has made its way into a number of our schemes with an extremely versatile floral design. With so many colours in the fabric, there are many accompanying variations that can be built from this vibrant pattern. We used ‘Ashdown’ for the curtains in room 215 at Covent Garden Hotel where Nina’s design also inspired the bespoke headboard.
It immediately felt at home in our design studio, and it’s filled with so much of what we love. From themes of cricket at Dorset Square Hotel, bowling at Ham Yard Hotel and riding in the New Forest. With three tonal colourways to choose from, this is a fitting design for lovers of traditional English sport.
Vibrant Cushions from Andrew Martin
Sometimes it just takes introducing something new to refresh a scheme. We do this by changing lampshades, cushions and artwork. Whenever we’re on the hunt for exciting new cushion designs, we often turn to Andrew Martin whose selections are simply fabulous. Our recent favourites are ‘Dahlia’ and ‘Exotic’, which stand out brilliantly when against natural tones.
Hand Blocked by Molly Mahon
We adore fabrics that are made using traditional techniques, and ‘Luna’ by Molly Mahon is one of our absolute favourites. The hand block prints make gorgeous imperfections in the fabric that show the ‘artists hand’ and help us to appreciate the work that has gone into creating this design. Whilst the simplicity of Molly’s patterns bring a sense of calm, the colour tones feel fresh and awakening.
We’ve used ‘Hand Blocked’ in a number of schemes and in room 205 at Crosby Street Hotel, the fabric adorns the curtains as a leading edge. We look forward to using this in many more schemes to come.
Sporting Life by Mulberry
I love using Mulberry fabric. Whenever a new collection comes out, you can expect several schemes on my desk from the moment we receive samples. Always with such vibrant colour and texture, they bring energy into any space. One of our soon to be re-designed suites at The Whitby Hotel will feature this beautiful new Mulberry textile: Sporting Life.
We can’t wait to share our new schemes with you soon. Keep in touch with us and sign-up to our Newsletters to be the first to know about the upcoming projects and events at Kit Kemp Design Studio and Firmdale Hotels.
Wallpaper by Christopher Farr
Christopher Farr recently launched ‘Fiori’ and I love how this paper looks like stained glass. I’d love to see this inside a walk-in wardrobe. The design is a dance of colour that catches your eye!
There’s something very ‘Bloomsbury’ about the neutral colourway. Its subtle tones would make this perfect for a corridor.
Spectacular textures with Temple Studio
In a recent ‘Meet The Maker’ post, we shared a favourite new find: Soraya Shah’s Temple Studio. Soraya’s intricate hand woven fabrics are wonderful. At the top of our list and a favourite in the studio is her ‘Thompson’ design. I love the detailed warp and weft which makes a great twist on traditional check designs.
