In the leafy courtyard at Ham Yard Village, you’ll find the Kit Kemp Design Studio Shop.
Kit has curated a space including her own designs, from the vibrant orange hand applique ‘Rhino Chair’ to the three-plank oak coffee table. These pieces sit alongside what she considers the absolute pinnacle of extraordinary craftsmanship including the hand carved and locally sourced ‘Skipping Table’ by Christopher Kurtz and an organic hanging basket installation by Cristian Mohaded, found on her travels.
We have framed two large soft sculptures by artist Sanaa Gateja in perspex, which hang above Kit’s Willow Sofa, covered in her ‘Lost and Found’ fabric for Christopher Farr. Sanaa Gateja lives and works in Kampala. Kit immediately fell in love with the meticulously stitched figurative compositions made from bark-cloth – an ancient material made from an East African ficus tree that is still produced following specific rituals involving drumming and dance.
Either side of the sofa sit Kit’s oak ruler tables and a one off light design by Porta Romana, featuring hand painted motifs of Kit’s Sailors Farewell design.
The sunny Kit Kemp ‘Inside Out’ wallpaper for Christopher Farr lights up the space with the help of our new artist stack lamps painted by Tess Newall, with fabric shades created by Polly Carter.
New applique doggy handle chairs and cushions are also available in a tailored navy or rusty red with ivory applique. Beneath your feet is a Kit Kemp ‘Diamond’ design rug for Wilton Carpets in a bespoke orange and blue colourway, so soft that you will want to take your shoes off and dance – feel free to by the way!
Katherine Cuthbert is a multidisciplinary London based artist who Kit has collected for years. Her stalagmite pots and vases are so sculptural and always look so striking mixed in together in a curated collection. Her gold floral paintings are also available.
In typical Kit Kemp style, there are bolts and flashes of colour painted on the pillars and shelving. Andrew Martin have a stunning new collection of paints and we have loved using them here in Egyptian Indigo, Lake Tekapo and Golden Hummingbird. Also available are unique cushion designs by Kit Kemp for Andrew Martin.
Celia Lindsell is a Sculptor who worked with Kit to install the shop’s windows. Her Totems represent the journey of past, present and future in a convergence of mysteries. Celia works with the wonder of crystal, stones and carved clay forms, creating sculpture of vertical harmony grounded through wooden plinths.
The Kit Kemp Design Studio Shop is open to all by appointment only so please enquire directly at Ham Yard Hotel or via Shop Kit Kemp here.
