As the seasons shift and we slip slowly but surely into the winter months, we thought we would share our top tips to make your home more cosy and inviting…
1. Layers are the key to creating warm and rich schemes. Add different textures from wools, cashmere, mohair and felt.
2. Don’t shy away from the more traditional stripes, herringbones, tartans and tweeds. We love to use these designs in contemporary interiors to create a warming feel.
We like to create a more textured feel by layering blankets and cushions in different textiles on the sofas and beds.
We especially love the herringbone fabrics made by Holland and Sherry.
4. The scent of a home is so important. During the winter months, create an inviting glow with scented candles. Our favourites during the winter are lavender, cinnamon, orange and our uplifting Wheatgrass Bay RIKRAK candle from Shop Kit Kemp.
3. Rugs are not just for floors. A beautiful rug establishes a space and ties a scheme together. A tapestry or found fabric hanging on the walls creates the same effect and adds something unexpected!
5. Create a centrepiece on your table or console with winter greenery. Collect pinecones, dry oranges, eucalyptus, rosemary or anything that reminds you of a wintery forest.
6. A cosy reading corner is the best place to while away a winter’s afternoon. Books look so comforting upon the walls, and can make any room feel like a home.
CreÂating pockets of space with different functions makes a room feel cosier.
7. Think about lighting. As it gets dark so much earlier, investigate which spaces do not have enough light and invest in some lamps with interesting shades. Low level lighting such as table lamps, standing lights and picture wall lights are the best way to create an inviting glow.
8. An abundance of empty wall space can feel cold. We often combat this by layering a different fabric or colour above a dado rail. Use the more intense or darker colour on the lower area to give weight to the scheme.
We hope this post inspires you to get cosy and make the most of your home comforts this winter.
