A few weeks ago, we met with the Christopher Farr team on Ham Yard Hotel’s Roof Terrace for a photoshoot of their fabulous new collection of fabrics.
We arrived at the crack of dawn to set up and were met with a fairly gloomy sky, however as the shoot got underway the sun burst through the clouds and we were blessed with what now feels like the last day of summer! Here is a sneak peek behind the scenes…
The shoot began in the Kitchen Garden, amongst the vegetables and fruit trees, accompanied by the gentle hum of bees buzzing around the nearby hives.
Kagoshima is based in Kyushu, the southern island of Japan where his practice is to draw images on clay. We love his depictions of birds and flowers, which he says are images from his childhood dreams. He says ‘I create to bring joy’ and that he certainly does.
This beautiful printed linen, ‘Array’ in Green, is part of a brand new collection designed in collaboration with Japanese ceramic artist, Makoto Kagoshima and Ritsuko Yagi of the Los Angeles gallery Chariots on Fire. It features three patterns interpreted as screen printed linens and wallpapers.
We hung lengths of fabric from one of our majestic olive trees. This is another Makoto Kagoshima x Chariots on Fire fabric, ‘Eden’ in Lemon, which works well with my pink and orange ‘Pop Art’ trim sewn down one edge. This combination would be so bright and fresh made up as a pair of curtains.
Cushion covers were made up to fit our wicker outdoor sofas and chairs, here in ‘Todo Terracotta’, a new weave.
The Roof Terrace is bursting with small plants, mosaic pots and bird houses, so we had such fun playing around. Here is a selection of fabrics suspended by a pole over our large teak root table.
One of the big excitements of the day was seeing my new ‘Romany Weave’ fabric made up for the first time! For a change of backdrop, we cleared the lift lobby to shoot the Indigo colourway in front of the humorous triptych of portraits by artist, Mimi de Biarritz.
The blues and red in the elaborate frames by Marcus Wells work so well behind it. The cushions are in my ‘Rick Rack’ and ‘Peace and Love’ designs accompanied by ‘Eden’ in Indigo by Makoto Kagoshima.
I love the Indigo, but our favourite colourway of the ‘Romany Weave’ has to be Aqua. I just love the subtle yet vibrant hues.
We loved hosting the Christopher Farr team and are ecstatic to see such beautiful final shots of the new collections with our favourite Roof Terrace as a backdrop.
