Design Threads: Paper Puzzles

This week, we have been inspired by the Victorian pastime of paper puzzles.  

Traditionally, Victorians would send these intricate cards on Valentine’s day to the lady or gentleman they may be courting. We think it’s such a simple yet lovely tradition to continue all year round.

Each unfolded section can be decorated with illustrations and messages, perhaps questions that allow them to unfold the next section, or simply messages of adoration.

Paper puzzles are an origami art form of folding a square of paper so that it opens not once, but twice. These can fold up smaller than the palm of your hand, and expand into a truly lovely surprise for the recipient. 

We had a go at creating our own paper puzzle, inspired by the Queen’s recent speech.
