Blithfield share our love of textiles and craft. Adding colour to interiors is an instant way to lift spirits, it adds a bit of joy.
We have a longstanding relationship with this renowned fabric and wallpaper house. We have used many of Blithfield’s fabrics in our schemes across the hotels. At The Whitby Hotel in New York, their ‘Hadleigh’ fabric dances across a headboard in suite 1202. The pink and orange colourway feels contemporary when paired with Blithfield’s ‘Saltaire’ fabric in a similar tones on the curtains.
At Covent Garden Hotel in room 110, Blithfield’s ‘Anoushka’ fabric is used in a more traditional setting. The beautiful pink, blue and green pattern on the curtains and scatter cushions brings the other colours in the room together in a single fabric.
I have previously worked with Blithfield on a collection with Fine Cell Work, a charity and social enterprise which enables prisoners to develop new skills, earn money and acquire the self-belief to stop offending.
Together with the late Melissa Wyndham, we selected Blithfield fabric designs which were then exquisitely embroidered by prison inmates working with Fine Cell Work.
In a more ethnic turn, the walls in suite 112 at Haymarket Hotel have been upholstered in Blithfield’s ‘Mali’ fabric from their new collection. The clean pattern, paired with a crisp navy and oatmeal palette, makes the whole room feel fresh.
When Blithfield asked me to collaborate again I jumped at the opportunity. This time we will be designing a stand for them at Focus/19 which takes place in September at the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour.
We have used fabrics from their new collection which includes intricate embroideries and bold, colourful prints. The scheme will also feature a very special new bespoke collaboration with Fine Cell Work. Embellishing fabrics with hand stitching and embroidery is the ultimate luxury. It makes any piece of furniture special and unique.
