Never under estimate the importance of a good chair. Design and comfort are key but the real fun begins in the dressing-up!
At Ham Yard Hotel, the wing chairs in the lobby are dressed in Helena Lynch’s reworked vivid Harmsworth felt, matching Sandra Blow’s paintings behind. In the lobby of The Whitby Hotel, the appliquéd armchair echoes the wallpaper used in the stairwell and Joe Tilson’s Proof artwork above.
At The Crosby Bar in New York, the folk art theme continues. The bar stools stand proud and elegant, clad in moss green suits and Asafo inspired felt cut-outs on their backs.
Our ‘Winged White Rhino’ armchairs for Anthropologie were inspired by folk art, with a bright orange cover piped in royal blue and pinned with a flying rhino on the back and flying monkeys at the base.
At Covent Garden Hotel, our ‘Conversazione Chair’ takes centre stage in the hotel’s entrance. It is a more traditional style, covered in a heavy embroidered classic brocade flower dress by Guell Lamadrid, waiting to welcome our guests.
Recently we’ve been busy perfecting our new Leo Armchair. It features a deep squishy seat, tapered legs with brass castors at the front in deep mahogany and a handy side pocket. It is our more elegant version of the classic club chair.
It is the finishing details that make this chair so special. We upholstered it in my ‘Hedgerow Cerise’ for Andrew Martin, added deep set buttons across the back and finished it off with a contrast pink piping.
A comfortable armchair can be tailor-made or detailed in an interesting way. Our ‘Tub Chairs‘ include a pocket on the side to hold the daily newspaper or maybe a pair of reading glasses with a well-read book. Little details like this add so much delight, but are useful too.
Our dressed-up chairs always make people smile and invite admiration. Don’t be intimidated by their fancy dress, have a seat and sink into the comfort!
