Kit Kemp x Porta Romana – The Rockin’ Robin Window Design

Collaborations

Over the past few months the Kit Kemp Design Studio has been working on Porta Romana’s showroom window in the heart of the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour and this week we had a great time finalising the installation. We want to take you through our design process to show you how we have used our new Rockin' Robin collection in collaboration with Porta Romana and how you can use the collection in your own designs...

Over the past few months, the Kit Kemp Design Studio has been working on Porta Romana’s showroom window in the heart of the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour. This week we got to the best part – installation! We want to take you through our process to show you how we have used our new Rockin’ Robin designs and how you can use the collection in your own home.

We started by drawing up the window space and then strategically placed the lighting collection to showcase the designs in a captivating way. The aim was to create an enclosed, magical space that was engaging and immersive for onlookers.

With this theme in mind, we put a scheme together of one of our favourite colour combinations, pink and green.

Our Tall Trees wallpaper – now available on Shop Kit Kemp – is a wonderful background to use as the subdued tones sit back and let the lights come alive, yet it is still an incredibly captivating mural.

When designing an immersive space, a secret of ours is to take your walling up and around to cover the floor or the ceiling, or both! This really helps to create what feels like an enchanting jewel box. This next image is our Photoshop illustration of our desired design. In this case, we fully covered the walls and floor creating an enclosed space.

In keeping with the mythical, woodland theme we have placed a Porta Romana ‘Twig’ console table in the left hand window. The console has been beautifully sculpted with a delicate plaster finish. It is one of our favourite pieces of furniture.

From there we carefully placed a number of the lights, including the Sleepy Robin table lamp and the Sunny Robin floor lamp. Suspended from the ceiling is our large Rocking Robin chandelier, which sits centre stage. Each light has a porcelain egg with a beautifully crafted robin that hangs from a delicate white stucco branch. Once turned on the eggs emit the warmest glow.

In the right hand side of the window, we have a more refined and structured scene with wall lights perfectly spaced, acting almost as an art installation.

The “Hall Sofa” by Porta Romana is gorgeously sleek and the perfect shape for this window stand. We wanted to give it a bit of pizazz and spice it up with hot pinks and saffron yellows using Kit Kemp’s Ozone fabric for Christopher Farr Cloth. We decided to add a pleated skirt in our Peace and Love design and separate the two fabrics with our new Pop Art trim border, which wraps around the top of the pleated skirt.

The collection captures our love of transforming an interior through the art of storytelling. Each of the six pieces from the collection combine playful charm with the sleek, smooth lines of modern structure. The soft glow from each fine porcelain egg emulates new beginnings as the robin rises from his slumber.

Small and animated, our Funky Robin table lamp would perch perfectly on a bedside table, whilst the Sunny Robin floor lamp would be right at home nestled beside a wing chair, adding a whimsical air and intriguing quality to the corner of a room.

Seen here in the Drawing Room at Dorset Square Hotel, the Rocking Robin chandelier creates a striking feature within a room with its unique composition and delicate structure. The fine porcelain eggs suspended from its branch-like frame softly illuminate the corners of the room, creating a sense of romance and intimacy.

Our Kit Kemp for Porta Romana collection is now installed in the windows of the Porta Romana showroom, so please pop into the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour the next time you are nearby! We cannot wait for you to see them.
