Welcome to Brumus Bar and Restaurant at Haymarket Hotel. We have designed Brumus with banquette seating and private booths, perfect for long lunches and intimate dinners. Join us as we explore this vibrant space.
Brumus is named after one of Kit’s beloved dogs. In homage to the spaniel, we hand-cut and appliquéd varying breeds of dogs onto the back of each chair and barstool in the restaurant. It is always important to introduce handmade elements to an interior as it adds character and prevents pieces from looking mass produced. We think we have done Brumus proud.
The walls have been covered in a two-tone Indian pink linen, creating a warm and cosy interior. When designing the space, we had to work our way around several large columns which can seem like a daunting task. However our top tip is to celebrate these features and cover them in a fabric you love. Here we have used our ‘Willow’ design in Ruby for Christopher Farr Cloth.
With large windows adorning both sides of the space, we had an abundance of natural daylight to scheme around. We have installed café style curtains, using a colourful, embroidered fabric. Hanging at mid-length, the curtains give privacy from the bustling streets whilst still allowing light to enter the restaurant.
Standing gallantly in the window is a life-size horse sculpture, casting beautiful speckled shadows onto our guests from where the sunlight shines through.
Taking centre stage is a dark oak bar with a pewter top. We have installed a mirrored backsplash which bounces light around the room and also reflects colours from the liquor bottles. Find out how to light a bar here.
We hope you’ve enjoyed exploring this sophisticated and characterful scheme. Join us on Thursdays at Brumus where we have live jazz music from 6pm to 7.30pm and offer a variety of martinis. After all, we design our spaces to be lived-in as well as looked at! For Jazz and Martinis at Brumus click here.
