London Design Festival is always an action packed week for us in the design studio. The Victoria & Albert Museum just across the road has been a hub of activity during LDF. As part of their programme, I was invited to speak about my latest book ‘Design Thread’.

I was delighted to be in conversation with Giles Kime, Interiors Editor of Country Life. It was a full house in the V&A’s Lydia and Manfred Gorvy Lecture Theatre. It was a privilege to speak in such a historic building.

After I delivered my talk I was able to take in the beautiful surroundings. I love the impressive domed ceiling painted with tendrils of vines.

The lecture theatre walls are lined with portraits of the most significant patrons of the arts. Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael are among the brooding figures who flank the room, so we were in good company.

Another must visit during London Design Festival is Design Centre Chelsea Harbour.

This year, Blithfield asked us to create their stand for design week to launch their new collection. A stand is always fun to design. Within a day an empty shell is transformed into somewhere you are drawn into to explore and touch these wonderful fabrics.

Blithfield’s colour palette is great fun to use and exudes the warm, bright tones that are our go tos in the studio.

A favourite in their new collection is the beautiful ‘Capri’ embroidered fabric. The design was inspired by a small hand-embroidered purse bought in Portobello market. Blithfield recreated the imperfections and haphazard stitching in their own design. We have used it on two different colourways on the bolster cushions, chair and end of bed stool.
